Aglaja Ray

Aglaja Ray is a Lithuanian artist whose work transcends mere visual aesthetics, aiming to convey nuanced messages with layered meanings. Her artistic mission is to forge a distinctive visual language by blending influences from science fiction, comics, and spiritual texts with abstraction. Figurative elements seamlessly transition into pure abstraction, providing a space for deeper contemplation. Navigating between abstraction and storytelling, Aglaja purposefully leaves spaces for viewers to actively contribute to the narrative, fostering intimate engagement.

The fantastical creatures within Aglaja's artworks often represent the intricate complexities of individuality. Rooted in a fascination for speculative realms, her paintings bring forth cyborgs and fantastical entities, inspiring contemplation on humanity's evolving interaction with technology and the longing for a deeper meaning of life and mystical metaphysical realms.

Aglaja's discourse delves into relationships, introspective connections, interactions with others, technology, and the transcendent. Titles, often presented as questions with ironic nuances like "Are we smarter than the dolphins yet?," serve as a critique of human pride. The delicate interplay between faith and transhumanism, fuelled by the fear of mortality, unfolds in her thematic exploration.
