Ilze Egle

Ilze Egle, a contemporary artist hailing from Latvia, holds an MA in Fine Arts and is a valued member of the Latvian Union of Artists. Her diverse portfolio encompasses works in oil and acrylic, ranging from intricate illustrations and serene landscapes to bold, large-scale paintings and drawings. With a keen focus on nature, light, the female form, and abstract expression, Ilze seamlessly weaves drawings into her paintings, enriching them with depth and complexity.

Drawing from a rich background in fine arts, art management, and theology, Ilze's journey in the art world was shaped by her upbringing in a family of artists and a transformative year living amongst nuns. While she initially pursued a career as an art curator, her passion for creation ultimately led her back to the studio, where her practice flourished. Ilze's artworks have garnered international acclaim, finding homes in numerous private collections and earning her prestigious art awards. Her profound belief in the transformative power of art is evident in her dedication to teaching visual art and advocating for the artistic process.

In her artist statement, Ilze eloquently articulates her profound connection to nature, viewing it as a wellspring of inspiration and a source of profound beauty and fragility. Through her art, she seeks to capture fleeting moments and intricate details, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and immerse themselves in the present. Blurring the boundaries between abstract and representational, colour and monochrome, Ilze's work is a testament to the awe-inspiring complexity of life and the human experience. With each brushstroke, she endeavours to evoke a sense of wonder and contemplation, believing wholeheartedly in the transformative potential of art to effect positive change in the world.
